It’s not much of a brave new world after all – Peacock has canceled its adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s famous novel after a single season.

Peacock’s buzzy new adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World appears to have fizzled – the streamer has pulled the plug after just a single season.

Brave New World was one of Peacock’s original scripted content offerings, a program meant to entice viewers to add another for-pay streaming subscription to their home lineups.

“There will not be Season 2 of Brave New World on Peacock,” the streamer said in a statement. “David Wiener created a thought-provoking and cinematic adaptation. We’re grateful to the cast and crew who brought this world to life. We look forward to telling more stories with David in the future.”

Based on the 1932 novel of the same name, Brave New World depicts a futuristic supposedly utopian society known as the World State, in which human beings are born in artificial wombs and everyone is organized into strict hierarchies. Citizens are kept under control thanks to a hallucinogenic anti-depressant drug cocktail known as soma, and things like monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself no longer exist.

The cast included a bunch of recognizable names including Alden Ehrenreich, Harry Lloyd, Jessica Brown Findlay, and Demi Moore.

All may not be lost, however. According to Deadline, UCP, the studio behind the series, plans to shop it to other outlets in the hopes it can find a new home elsewhere. Whether another network or streamer might be inclined to pick the series up is anyone’s guess – it clearly struggled to find an audience on Peacock, but whether that was because of the show itself or because not that many people seem to be watching the original offerings on the NBC platform is unclear.

And with so many places looking for content, anything is possible.
