We’re all used to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, but according to Natalie Portman, Jane’s take on the superhero may be a bit different than what we’ve seen.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a new Marvel movie to enjoy, but luckily, there’s plenty to look forward to when the Marvel Cinematic Universe does resume business as usual. It’s a new era for the MCU, with lots of new heroes making their debuts — and some old ones taking on new forms, like Captain America and Thor.

Although Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is still around and game to appear in future films, he’ll be passing the hammer to a new hero in Thor: Love and Thunder: Natalie Portman’s Jane. She’ll become the Mighty Thor in the fourth installment, an exciting development that does line up with the comics. But even if Jane will be sporting a similar name and weapon in Phase 4 of the MCU, that doesn’t mean her take on Thor will be exactly the same as Hemsworth’s.

In an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Portman spoke a bit about her involvement in Thor: Love and Thunder, being careful not to spill any major details about the upcoming film. Other than emphasizing that she’s the Mighty Thor, not Lady Thor, she briefly mentioned that her character will have powers that differ from the Thor we all know and love.

“So, she does have powers. It’s not exactly the same as Thor,” Portman explained. “It’s her own version of it. And, she’s called The Mighty Thor.”

She didn’t dive in deeper than that, but it’s enough to get us excited about the upcoming movie. During her interview with Clarkson, Portman also emphasized the importance of all the women heroes currently in the MCU, and how it’s a critical development for the boys watching as much as it is for the girls:

"“I think people usually say how great it is for the girls, but it’s really important for the boys, you know? For boys to get to see women in those kinds of characters and in those kinds of personalities. It just expands opportunities for how we all see each other.”"

We’ll drink to that! With that mindset, there’s little doubt Portman will be bringing her all to this new role, and we can’t wait to see how it plays out. In the meantime, we’ll be speculating on her new superpowers… so many theories to tackle!
