Finally some good news: Netflix has renewed its pitch-perfect adaptation of The Babysitters Club for a second season.

Netflix hasn’t exactly had the greatest track record when it comes to their original series over the past month or two. The streaming giant has canceled multiple popular and largely female-led series, including space drama Away, female wrestling series GLOW, teen comedy-drama Teenage Bounty Hunters, YA dystopian mystery The Society, and the LGBTQ-friendly I Am Not Okay with This.

But, thankfully, not everything is terrible. The streamer has officially renewed its pitch-perfect adaptation of Ann M. Martin’s The Babysitters Club for a second season.

Which, let me tell you if they hadn’t…whew. Talk about sending some mean tweets.

Based on Martin’s tremendously popular novels, The Babysitters Club follows the friendship and adventures of a group of middle-schoolers who start a babysitting business together in the town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut.

The stories are generally sweet and heartfelt tales of growing up, involving everything from discovering boys and navigating blended families to chronic illness and divorce.  As a series, The Babysitters Club is family-friendly enough to be enjoyed by the whole family, but older viewers – who themselves may have grown up with Kristy, Mary Anne, and friends – will love their faithfulness to both the story and spirit of the books.

The series stars Sophie Grace as Kristy, Momona Tamada as Claudia, Shay Rudolph as Stacey, Malia Baker as Mary Anne, and Xochitl Gomez as Dawn.  Alicia Silverstone plays Kristy’s mom, Elizabeth, and Mark Feuerstein plays Elizabeth’s fiancee, Watson.

Netflix announced the renewal with a video of the series’ sitter squad celebrating a second season.

Season 2 is currently slated to debut sometime in 2021. Given that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has impacted production schedules all over the world, we don’t entirely have a good read on when we might see more sitting adventures, but at least we know they’re coming. And that oddly counts for quite a lot, especially after so much bad Netflix news of late.

Long live the BSC.

Next. What to watch on Netflix: German historical drama Barbarians. dark
