Supergirl season 6: Predicting how each major character’s story will end
By Shaun Stacy
How will Brainy’s story end in Supergirl season 6?
Becoming a series regular during season four, Jesse Rath has turned in an amazingly poignant performance as Supergirl‘s new resident smart guy who also happens to be from the future. Turning what could easily be considered a cliched “fish out of water” trope into an encompassing journey in the search for one’s humanity, Rath’s Brainy has been one of the better late additions to the show’s cast.
Originally all logic and no emotions, Brainy eventually evolves into someone who is capable of demonstrating empathy, as well as solving some of the universe’s most complex puzzles. The romance between Brainy and Nia is one of the purest relationships on Supergirl and somewhat groundbreaking for primetime television. Nia is a transwoman superhero, but Brainy doesn’t care. He just loves her as she is, and she does the same. For a while, at least.
Like all good things we can’t have, Brainy is also forced to work with Lex during season five, breaking up with Nia in the process to “protect” her. Brainy and Nia, much like Kara and Lena, spend most of the season at odds with each other and it isn’t until the last episode that there is a glimmer of a reconciliation.
As one of the few cliffhangers from season 5, Brainy’s existence is somewhat in question for season 6. Will he be rescued by Nia and the team before it’s too late? We’re betting yes. Will he eventually return to the future he came from before the series is over? Also probably a yes (sorry, Nia). However, there is still plenty of time for the two of them to make-up and perhaps meet again sometime in the near future.
