How will Lillian Luthor’s story end in Supergirl season 6?

More often than not, Supergirl has done a pretty decent job at creating complex female characters, perhaps none so complex as Lillian Luthor, played by the talented Brenda Strong. Lillian appeared in season 2 shortly after McGrath joined the show as Lena, and has been a fairly size-able pain in Supergirl and Lena’s sides since. While Lena yearned for a connection with her stepmother, Lillian was from the darker side of the Luthor family, and was only interested in using Lena’s intellect for her own agenda. In a post-Crisis National City, Lillian is no longer imprisoned for her previous crimes and is, in fact, a high-ranking executive at L-Corp. It was revealed in the final moments of season 5 that she had yet again joined forces with Lex to rule the world.

Here’s the thing: While the show seriously overdosed on Lex last season, we barely got any of Lillian. We wouldn’t be at all mad if she somehow takes over whatever plot she and Lex were hatching, becoming the first Big Bad of the season. It would be a nice way to bring Lena and Kara closer together again, though it shouldn’t play out for too long, since technically we’ve been there, done that with an adversarial Lillian in past seasons. Strong is such a gem in the role, it would be a shame to not have Lillian go out in a blaze of glory (perhaps literally?) during the final season of the series.
