Kim Petras has taken her throne as the Queen of Halloween in the last few years. Even though her spooky new EP is delayed until 2021, fans are still getting a little treat!

If you don’t know Kim Petras, you have some catching up to do. The German pop star has been making waves in the pop music world since she released her debut single “I Don’t Want it At All” in 2017. Since then, besides releasing fun bops galore, she has established herself as a Halloween heavyweight with her spooky EP Turn Off The Light Vol. 1 in 2018. She argued that, if Mariah Carey can be the Queen of Christmas, why can’t she be the Queen of Halloween? And she’s got a point!

The next year, Kim released Turn Off The Light Vol. 2, and released both EPs together as a full album. Fans have been demanding more ever since, especially now that Halloween season is in full swing. But unfortunately, fans will have to wait a little bit longer for their spooky bops.

The singer took to Instagram Live this past week with some good news — and some bad news — for fans. The good news: A new single was dropping on Friday (Oct. 23) to give fans more of the horror pop vibes that they love, and TOTL Vol. 3 is on the way to complete the trilogy. The single, “Party Till I Die” sounds like it would fit right in on TOTL Vol. 2, with it’s mid-tempo, synth beat, and vocal effects. For all intents and purposes, it’s just another pop song, but the lyrics make it undeniably Halloween-themed.

The bad news: TOTL Vol. 3 will only be released in time for Halloween… 2021. Kim told fans that she had been working hard on the EP and really wanted to share it, but would rather wait until she can tour and perform the songs. That’s right, the EP is yet another victim of COVID-19. Since the world is still dealing with the repercussions of the pandemic, she doesn’t feel right releasing it when she can’t do it properly. “Party Till I Die,” she said, is more like TOTL Vol. 2.1 and it was added to the tracklisting of that EP as a new treat.

Of course, we’ll take anything we can get at this point. Since Halloween festivities will be slim, the 18 songs Kim has released already will suffice. You can hear her chant in German on “In The Next Life” or check out the sexy slow jam “Death By Sex.”

Every year, another artist decides to dip their toes into the holiday music scene, from Gwen Stefani to Sia to Kelly Clarkson, but few have delved into the world of Halloween music. There will always be songs that give off that Halloween feeling, but they aren’t usually exclusively Halloween songs. Kim has really established herself as the Queen of the genre, and not many can say that.

Even if we’re stuck waiting another year for Turn Off The Light Vol. 3, at least we have something to look forward to. And that means we can make sure Halloween 2021 is the best one yet — which won’t be hard to beat after a Debbie Downer of a 2020.
