The album Miley Cyrus has spent two years working on will finally arrive this November — and fans can expect to feel plenty of emotions when it does.

It’s been a while since Miley Cyrus released a full album for fans to enjoy, but we officially have new music to look forward to! The singer-songwriter announced that she’ll be releasing her seventh studio album this November, and it’s one she’s been working on for quite some time.

Cyrus shared the news on social media, revealing that she started working on this album two years ago, but that an unfortunate combination of erasing her original work and having major upheavals in her personal life set the project back.

“I began this album over 2 years ago,” she wrote on Instagram. “Thought I had it all figured out. Not just the record with its songs and sounds but my whole f**king life. No one checks an ego like life itself. Just when I thought the body of work was finished… it was ALL erased. Including most of the music’s relevance. Because EVERYTHING had changed.”

Miley went on to reference the wildfire that burned down her Malibu home with Liam Hemsworth, with whom she broke things off not long after. And it seems that chain of events will be tackled in the upcoming album, which she described as a collection of chapters from her life.

“Luckily my collaborators still had most of the music that was burned up in journals and computers filled with songs for the EP series I was working on at the time,” she wrote. “But it never felt right to release my ‘story’ (each record being a continual autobiography) with a huge chapter missing.”

Now that she’s taken the time to fill in those missing pieces, fans can expect an emotional journey in her upcoming release. So, what else do we know about Miley’s latest?

Album Name & Tracks

Miley’s new album will be called Plastic Hearts, and it will feature a total of 12 tracks. Although a tracklist hasn’t been released as of yet, we do know that her new single, “Midnight Sky,” will  be one of the 12 songs. Her live covers of “Heart of Glass” by Blondie and “Zombie” by The Cranberries will also be featured, and the album will reportedly lean more toward a rock sound.

The cover art, which Miley shared in her Instagram post, is definitely in line with a heavier sound — and honestly, her recent rock covers have been bangers, so we can get on board with this change of pace.

Release Date

Plastic Hearts arrives on November 27, just in time to jam to it over a long Thanksgiving weekend.  It’s certainly something to be grateful for heading into the last few months of the year — after all, we could use some new music to distract us from literally everything else happening in 2020.
