A Furiosa prequel movie starring Anya Taylor-Joy is heading our way
Furiosa is coming back to fans of Mad Max: Fury Road. Anya Taylor-Joy was cast as the character for a prequel movie with George Miller set to direct.
Fans of Mad Max: Fury Road are in for a treat because Anya Taylor-Joy has been cast to play Furiosa in a prequel film! The cast includes the Emma star, as well as Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. And honestly, a Furiosa announcement in 2020 seems about right.
The prequel, which will focus on Furiosa’s background, is something that has been in talks for a while and has been met with a lot of pushback from fans — mainly because the idea of going back in time into the repressive world we met Furiosa in doesn’t seem too appealing in 2020 when, instead, we could be watching a Furiosa movie with Charlize Theron set after Max Max: Fury Road.
Still, returning to this world with George Miller directing could be incredibly fun. (And with a cast like Taylor-Joy, Hemsworth, and Abdul Mateen, we’re in for great performances as well.)
According to Variety, the film is going to be directed, co-written, and produced by Miller. The site also pointed out that, in preparation for Fury Road, the team began looking into the backstory for each of the characters — and while we didn’t see much of Furiosa’s onscreen, seeing how she ended up being a war captain under Immortan Joe would actually be interesting to see.
Still, it would have been fun to see Theron back in the role, but Taylor-Joy is an incredibly talented actress. And if she was cast in the role, we’re clearly getting Furiosa’s story at least 15 years before we saw her in Fury Road, with Miller having talked about needing an actress in her 20s (after potentially using de-aging technology for Theron to return to the part). Here’s to hoping she makes a great addition to the world.
