Apple TV’s The Morning Show to resume production on season 2

Production is set to (finally) resume on the second season of Apple TV+’s Emmy-nominated series The Morning Show this October.
After a seven month hiatus, production is finally set to resume on season 2 of the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ series The Morning Show.
The drama, which was renewed for a second season before its first ever aired – or streamed, in this instance – had nearly finished filming the first two episodes of season 2 when production was shut down due to the rapidly spreading coronavirus pandemic
As a result, the show’s remaining installments are apparently being rewritten to some degree, in order reflect the reality and impact of COVID-19 on the world and the news industry – and ostensibly on New York City itself, where the show is set.
The Morning Show stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon and follows the unfolding crisis at a popular morning news program when one of its long-time hosts is accused of sexual misconduct.
According to Deadline, which broke the news, production will resume on October 19. And star Steve Carrell – who plays disgraced morning show co-host Mitch Kessler – will also be returning. Carell had only previously signed a one-year deal and given where season 1 leaves his character it would have made a certain amount of sense for the show to write Mitch out at this point.
How season 2 will depict the fallout from the season 1 finale, which saw Aniston and Witherspoon’s characters report accusations against their network head of bribing sexual harassment victims to stay silent isn’t clear.
How a global health crisis will play into this, as well as how the writers intend to work Mitch – disgraced, unemployed, and publicly humiliated – back into the show’s main narrative are also both up in the air. (Though the idea that a disgraced man could – and probably would – fail upward after a public shaming is hardly an unprecedented tale.) But whatever happens, as long as the show keeps centering women’s perspectives in an industry that’s so heavily dominated by men, we’ll be watching to find out.
The Morning Show will likely return for season 2 at some point in 2021. What do you think should happen in season 2?
