This year has felt like a decade. So many great songs have been released in 2020 that you may have forgotten some — but we’re here to remind you!

Let’s be honest: 2020 has been one hell of a year — some good, mostly bad, and overall just feels like the year is never going to end. With only a couple months left before 2021 (how?!), it’s about that time where we start to look back at the months that have passed. And there’s no better way to do that than by remembering the best music of the year.

The last nine months flew by, but simultaneously feel like they’ve lasted a decade at least, so it makes sense that the earlier months feel like a distant memory. Can you believe 2020 was the year Kobe Bryant tragically passed? What about the Netflix smash hits Cheer and Tiger King that everyone was obsessed with? Or remember the murder hornet scare? That was all this year!

There were also so many great songs released before (and during) lockdown that you’ve probably forgotten all about. Today, we’re here to remind you of the songs you should rediscover as 2020 comes to an end.

1. “You Should Be Sad” by Halsey

Way back in January, Halsey released her single “You Should Be Sad” from her album Manic, which was also released in 2020, in case you forgot. The music video gave us a sexy, alternative cowboy vibe, and Halsey never looked better. The song was the singer’s goodbye to an ex and how glad she was to be away from them, and how much better she was doing now. There was also a banging remix by Tiesto.

2. “Boss Bitch” by Doja Cat

This one was a little harder to forget, but it definitely feels like it was unleashed over a year ago. Doja Cat’s “Boss Bitch” was released on the soundtrack for Birds of Prey in February to coincide with the release of the movie, along with tracks from Megan Thee Stallion and Normani, Sofi Tukker, Halsey, Saweetie, and other badass babes. The high-intensity rap track was quickly picked up by the kids on TikTok and became a popular sound on the app.

3. “Stupid Love” by Lady Gaga

After Lady Gaga killed it in 2019, fans were desperately waiting for her return to pop music. In fact, maybe they were too excited because the lead single from her comeback album (which we know now as Chromatica), “Stupid Love,” was leaked prematurely in January.

Even though it took Gaga’s team a hot minute to respond, the song got its official release at the end of February, despite it already being played in nightclubs and in fashion shows. The single has since been overshadowed by “Rain On Me,” the massive collaboration with Ariana Grande that went to No. 1, and the rest of the Chromatica tracks.

4. “Toosie Slide” by Drake

It’s not just songs from January and February that slipped between the cracks! Drake’s “Toosie Slide” took the world by storm in April. It gave us another viral dance, this one even easier than any of the others: right foot up, left foot slide, left foot up, right foot slide. Of course, TikTok immediately picked up the song. The music video had Drake showing off his Toronto mansion in lockdown, making all of us very, very jealous of the humble apartments we were quarantined in.

5. “React” by The Pussycat Dolls

This one might be the ultimate forgotten bop of 2020. It doesn’t help that it actually debuted back in November 2019 when the group reunited on The X Factor. They performed a medley and introduced the world to the new track, “React.” They only did a portion of it, but fans online went wild. Unfortunately, the actual single wasn’t released on streaming until February.

Even after such a long wait, fans still ate it up. It was catchy and sexy, and everything the Pussycat Dolls are known for. It didn’t sound like a rehashing of past hits, either. Unfortunately, they didn’t get much time to promote it, since their European reunion tour had to be postponed due to COVID-19. Here’s hoping they get back together when this is all over for a bigger tour and more new music!
