Star Trek Discovery season 1 will air on CBS ahead of the premiere of its third season on CBS All Access this fall.

Boldly go where no one has gone before with CBS as the network airs Star Trek Discovery season 1 in its entirety this Fall. The series, which debuted in 2017, originally premiered on the network, but the remainder of the series aired on the premium streaming service. CBS AllAccess. According to Collider, the move was made to pull people in to subscribe to the service ahead of Discovery’s third season premiere later this fall.

More from Star Trek Series

The prequel series, which focuses on Michael Burnham, the adoptive human sister of our favorite half-Vulcan Spock, is set ten years before James Kirk takes command of the U.S.S Enterprise. It also takes a completely different route in how the story is structured. Instead of following the captain, it follows the second-in-command.

The Collider article states that Star Trek: Discovery airing on CBS is a way of filling in programming gaps which would normally be reserved for new original shows. But, since production shutdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic have left many new and returning series delayed, content from other sources is being brought in to fill the gaps. And sci-fi series will not be the only CBS All Access property coming to broadcast in the fall. The sitcom One Day at a Time will air its fourth season after having moved to Pop TV from Netflix.

CBS is also looking at securing the rights to other shows from competing networks and their streaming service to air on the main network, so expect to see the likes of the reimagined The Twilight Zone from the creative mind of Jordan Peele coming to your television screens in the near future. Also, be sure to keep an eye out for Manhunt: Deadly Games which will debut very soon.
