Being a fan of the Harry Potter series in the early 2000s meant that there were plenty of strange fan creations that have stuck out in our memories and they’re fun to look back on.

Harry Potter has been around for 23 years and in those years, the fandom has grown and evolved time and time again. But in the days when the books were being released and the movies were coming out, fandom was pretty vibrant.

Which meant we had some weird things happening that are still iconic moments in the series. Like A Very Potter Musical or Wizard People, Dear Reader. They’re just things that we know existed and we can remember where we were the first time we heard about them.

They’re not exactly the most secretive of fandom projects but it is very specific to the Harry Potter fandom and thinking about them now is extremely interesting because fandom at that time was very online and one of the first fandoms to be so on the internet.

Sure, the internet had been around but that was also the dawning of social media so fanfiction was thriving more than ever and we had more of it at our fingertips. It also meant connecting to other fans of the series and seeing just how much we all loved the same series.

But, thinking back to those strange creations that were famous in our world and how they’re still staples of our journey with the series is fascinating to learn about and re-examine. Or something to do for the first time but it is fun to connect back to that era of fandom.
