Amazon Prime announced the premiere date for the second season of The Boys, but that’s not all. The format of the series will be different.

Okay, Supes haters, we finally got the news we’ve been waiting for: The Boys has a second-season release date, but that’s not the only bit of news that dropped about the fast-paced superhero satire.

The Boys held a virtual reunion panel, hosted by season two guest star Patton Oswalt, during which the stars dropped several hints about the upcoming episodes.

Watch the panel in its entirety here:

New Faces

There’s a lot to be excited about when it comes to this irreverant anti-hero show, especially with new a Supe joining the group: Stormfront (Aya Cash). According to the press release:

"“Starlight (Erin Moriarty) must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander ([a riveting] Antony Starr) sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront (Aya Cash), a social media-savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own. On top of that, the Supervillain threat takes center stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalize on the nation’s paranoia.”"

The Boys’ sneak peek included a glance at Cash’s Stormfront (at point 38:40).

In addition to Cash’s intriguing debut among the Seven, we will also meet Goran Visnjic, who has been described as a shadowy and magnetic religious figure, and Claudia Doumit  as a congresswomen. (Both actors hail from Timeless.)

Premiere DateHow Streaming Will Be Different

The second season of The Boys will premiere on September 4, on Amazon Prime, a few months after the originally anticipated date sometime in July. Even though it’s arriving a little later than expected, it’s pretty positive news that it’s dropping this fall, considering the coronavirus pandemic.

But there’s a major change in viewing ability: only the first three episodes will drop on that premiere date. I’m not complaining, happy to have them in hand at all, but fans need to prepare to wait for the rest of the episodes, which will air on a weekly basis, like The Mandalorian on Disney+. Each new episode will air on Friday, culminating in the season finale on Friday, October 9.

The season summary states: “The even more intense, more insane season two finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. In hiding, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) try to adjust to a new normal, with Butcher (Karl Urban) nowhere to be found.”

Episode Titles, A Sneak Peek of the Premiere

The awesome “The Boys F**kin’ Reunited” YouTube live stream included the full cast, but even more tantalizing, the first few minutes of the premiere (hoorah!) at 47:30 of the video.

The Boys has also released the eight episode titles for season two, which are as follows:

  • “Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker”
  • “Nothing Like It in the World”
  • “Over the Hill With the Swords of a Thousand Men”
  • “Proper Preparation and Planning”
  •  “The Big Ride”
  • “The Bloody Doors Off”
  • “We Gotta Go Now”
  • “What I Know”

Enjoy deciphering them for any clues about the upcoming season. How excited are you for the new season of The Boys, one of the standout shows from last year? How will Homelander’s discovered son (with Butcher’s thought-dead wife!) factor into the new storyline? Where is Butcher? And his wife? The cliffhanger from the initial season was incredible, and I’m sure season two will have lots of elements of surprise as well.
