NBC renews its twisty, supernaturally-tinged series Manifest for a third season of mysteries and surprises.

Get ready, 828ers. Our journey isn’t over yet.

NBC has officially renewed its twisty drama Manifest for a third season, which means that maybe we’ll finally get some answers about what happened to Flight 828 and whether our faves are clones, residents of an alternate reality or stuck in some kind of hellish purgatory, series finale of Lost-style.

The series follows a group of passengers from the aforementioned plane, which disappeared and was presumed lost forever, before miraculously returning five years later. Thus far, no one has been able to explain what happened to the plane or how its passengers survived.

The show itself has hinted at everything from a miracle to time travel, and the season 2 finale dropped another bombshell: That they may never have survived at all. A group of fishermen discovered the tail of the plane, looking for all the world like a piece of wreckage that had been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for five years, so basically: We’ve got no idea what’s going on now. Not that I’m sure we ever really did, to begin with.

Oh, and there’s also the small matter of the fact that all the survivors’ lives appear to come with an expiration date that’s equal to the amount of time they disappeared. And the plane survivors weren’t the only people to vanish and return in an unexplained fashion.

New character Zeke disappeared for a year when he should have frozen to death. (Though he also seems to hold the key to breaking the “death date” curse, since he managed to live through the day he was meant to die. Again. For the first time. I don’t know – this show is complicated!!)

Manifest’s second season concluded just over two months ago, and speculation was high that it would return for a third. The series’ linear ratings aren’t that great, but it’s a monster success on streaming platforms, and its audience is generally around 8 million viewers a week once DVR and Hulu numbers are factored in.

Given that those are the sorts of totals that rival perennial hits like Grey’s Anatomy, the show felt like it ought to be a shoo-in to return. And it has, which should be a relief to fans everywhere. (Or even just casual TV watchers – this is the kind of show where we all need answers.)

Are you a fan of Manifest? What would you like to see happen when season 3 arrives? Let’s discuss in the comments.
