The Doom Patrol season 2 trailer promises another season of amazing superhero weirdness
By Lacy Baugher
The Doom Patrol season 2 trailer is here and it’s everything you loved about the series’ first season turned up to eleven.
Doom Patrol is a show that shouldn’t work at all. It’s dark and weird and really strange, even more so if you’re not familiar with this comics franchise prior to tuning in. Yet, it’s also one of the most innovative, inventive and heartfelt superhero series out there. And it’s (finally!) about to launch its second season.
The deal with Doom Patrol season 2 is kind of complicated. It’s a DC Universe original, which means that it streams on that platform alongside other series like Titans and Stargirl. But much like Stargirl has a partnership deal with the CW to increase its audience, Doom Patrol has one with HBO. Or, rather, with HBO Max. (Don’t ask me to explain the difference right now, it’s too hard.) Its second season will be available to stream in both places, which will hopefully get more eyeballs on this amazing weirdo show. Because it deserves a bigger audience.
A weird found family story that brings together a group of misfits with both bizarre superpowers and traumatic pasts, Doom Patrol is probably the best comic book series you’ve never seen before.
The trailer for its second season probably makes exactly zero sense to anyone who hasn’t seen this show before, but for those who have, it’s everything we’ve come to love about it. Our faves may be miniature-sized currently and trapped on a tiny race track (it honestly does make sense within the story, I swear), but it looks as though they’ll finally come together as a real team at last. All to save their mentor’s daughter, who may or may not have powers capable of destroying the world.
Look, it’s messy, okay. But it’s also a bonkers good time.

The official season 2 synopsis sets up the basics of what’s to come.
"DC’s strangest group of heroes — Cliff Steele aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry Trainor aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Victor Stone aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade) — are back again to save the world. That is, if they can find a way to grow up…both figuratively and literally.Following the defeat of Mr. Nobody, the members of the Doom Patrol now find themselves mini-sized and stranded on Cliff’s toy race car track. Here they begin to deal with their feelings of betrayal by Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton), while confronting their own personal baggage. And as each member faces the challenge of growing beyond their own past traumatic experiences, they must come together to embrace and protect the newest member of the family: Dorothy Spinner (Abigail Shapiro), Niles’ daughter, whose powers remain a mysterious but real threat to bringing on the end of the world."
The first three episodes of Doom Patrol season 2 will be available to stream on HBO Max on Thursday, June 25, with subsequent new installments dropping on Mondays for the following six weeks.
