Emma Watson speaks out in support of the trans community
Hermione Granger star Emma Watson took to Twitter to share her support for the trans community and give light to organizations she donates to in support.
Emma Watson has openly been a supporter of the trans community before, but with J.K. Rowling’s recent comments online, Watson has taken to Twitter to show her support once more.
While there is a lot to be sad about in regards to Rowling’s comments, it’s been great to see the actors who helped bring the series to life to use their platforms for good. Following Rowlings’ recent comments, many Harry Potter stars are using their platforms to promote links to organizations created to help the Black trans community including Watson.
In a series of tweets, Watson brought up her love and support for the trans community and where she donates to help.
Sharing with her trans followers and fans, Watson reminded the community that they are loved and valued by so many and that we all support and love you for who you are.
Watson shared the handles of organizations she donates to. One being Mermaids, which is a U.K. based organization that helps young people and their families. You can donate to them here. The second is Mama Cash, a feminist organization that helps the feminist movement. Their statement says, “Mama Cash supports women, girls, trans people and intersex people who fight for their rights”.
A lot of Rowling’s comments were centered around how trans rights are somehow bad for women and feminism, so seeing Watson donate and bring light to an organization like Mama Cash is wonderful and I hope the stars of the Harry Potter series continue to show their support for the trans community.
