Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, nurses have been fighting tirelessly on the front lines. Mark Hamill decided to surprise one with a video call.

Since the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis began, nurses and doctors have been fighting tirelessly on the front lines to combat the disease. That’s no doubt taken a physical and mental toll on many of them, which is why Star Wars actor Mark Hamill went out of his way to surprise a nurse who has been working through the pandemic with a video call — because we could all use a bit of hope during these trying times, right?

Chloe Ducose, a nurse from San Diego, has been performing coronavirus tests from a drive-up tent in her area. She’s also a big Star Wars fan (who isn’t?), so Jimmy Kimmel arranged to have Luke Skywalker himself thank her for her service.

Ducose quickly went from surprise to tears when she realized what was happening. After all, it’s not every day the star from one of your favorite franchises calls to tell you they appreciate you.

Watch Ducose’s reaction to the video call here:

“Chloe, the Force is strong with you,” Hamill told her. “I applaud you for having seen the Star Wars movies more than I have.” (She admitted at the beginning of the call that she may have seen the films more than 10 times.)

“I’m a pretend hero,” Hamill added. “You’re the real-life hero. So, thank you for your service.”

And any hero — real-life or fake — needs a Lightsaber, so Hamill presented Ducose with a signed replica of one (though he did gently suggest she leave it at home if she attends any protests). Kimmel also informed Ducose that she’d be getting a $10,000 donation to spend however she likes.

Although Ducose may be the only one to receive a Lightsaber from Hamill himself, she’s not the only healthcare worker Kimmel has highlighted. In fact, the TV host has been using his platform to pay tribute to healthcare workers frequently since the pandemic began, reaching out to front line workers from various parts of the country who are working in different capacities to keep the virus in check.

It’s nice to see someone showing these front line workers the appreciation. They most certainly deserve it.
