8. Season 4, Episode 1: “The Ghost”
One of the best things about Agents of SHIELD is that you never know which comic characters will come to life on the show. By season 4, we had already learned that Skye is indeed Daisy Johnson, aka Quake from the comic books. When season 4 opens, Daisy is an on-the-run vigilante as a result of the fallout from her lover Lincoln sacrificing himself in the season 3 finale. Living in Los Angeles while hiding out from SHIELD and the police at large, Daisy comes across a certain leather-clad character who also happens to have a flaming skull as a head.
Enter: Robbie Reyes, aka Ghost Rider, in the first episode of the season. In this version, Robbie shares his body with the Ghost Rider demon following his death in a car crash. Ghost Rider is destined to roam the world, delivering justice and punishing the evil where it sees fit. Ghost Rider was meant to introduce a supernatural element to the show, ahead of the release of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange.
Ghost Rider, praised for both Diego Luna’s acting ability as well as movie-level visual effects, quickly became a fan-favorite character. The character had extremely powerful chemistry with Daisy, giving viewers hope that they would become a romantic, long-term pairing but, alas, he was only around for a handful of episodes throughout season 4. QuakeRider will always have a special place in our hearts, though.
