Daisy Ridley has proven time and time again that she’s a star to look out for, and now the Star Wars actress is possibly heading to an entirely new genre.

When it comes to Star Wars, there is a bit of a curse when it comes to the franchise’s lead stars. Mark Hamill faced it down and came out better for it in the end, and Hayden Christensen had to take it on, but it seems as though Daisy Ridley is bypassing the curse completely. That curse is the post-Star Wars slump.

Apparently, the Star Wars actress is currently in talks to star in a psychological thriller. Titled The Ice Beneath Her, Deadline reports that the film is similar in tone to Gone Girl and other stories of that caliber. This means we’re going to see a completely new side to Daisy Ridley. Deadline describes the film’s synopsis as follows:

"“With its unreliable narrator, Swedish author Camilla Grebe’s bestselling 2015 novel is similar in tone to Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train. The story revolves around a detective and psychological profiler who work to solve the case after a young woman is found beheaded in the home of a prominent businessman. The investigation quickly evolves into a race against time.”"

The only other thing that Ridley has done that is similar, in my opinion, is Murder on the Orient Express. But even then, the film is a little lighter in tone than something like Gone Girl, so it’ll be interesting to see her take on this new aspect of her career. Ophelia was a bit more serious, but still not something with the types of twists and turns we see in these darker thrillers.

Tackling a franchise isn’t easy, but coming out of it and heading into your next line of work can be equally as hard. Luckily, Ridley is the kind of actress who can pass this test with flying colors. If she lands this role, it’ll be the first step in her post-Star Wars career — and that’s a career we’re more than interested in following.

Next. Sorry, but Greg Grunberg doesn’t think there’s a J.J. cut of Episode IX. dark
