Westworld season 3 continues this Sunday on HBO with an episode that brings Maeve and Dolores together again – but the when and how of this meeting is something of a mystery.

In the world of WestworldDolores Abernathy and Maeve Millay have been set in opposition to one another almost since the series’ first moments. One began the tale as a naive farmgirl, the other as a worldly brothel madam.

That dichotomy has continued into the series’ third season in a very literal sense, placing both women on opposing sides of the fight for Rehoboam and (possibly?) robot revolution. Dolores, it would seem, is a fan of burning it all down in the name of remaking a new world in its place. While Maeve is more interested in protecting the people she cares about, namely her daughter who crossed over into the Valley Beyond at the end of last season.

And now that Dolores has, quite literally, changed the world by releasing the in-depth data files Incite stored on every member of the human population, the two seem headed for a confrontation.

According to the preview for the next episode, that time is now. Maeve and Dolores will come face to face for the first time this season in episode 6, entitled “Decoherence”, and talk about some of their differing opinions on power and the future of their kind.

The trailer also clearly shows Maeve returning to Warworld – though for what reason we don’t know. Perhaps that’s sort of her default state while a new body is being printed in the real world. (She did just get stabbed to death, after all.) Or maybe she just needed to let off some steam punching Nazis. This is Westworld, who can say?

The episode synopsis for “Decoherence” is as unhelpful as ever.

"Do a lot of people tell you that you need therapy?"

Because, well, all of these people need therapy, if we’re honest.

The clip also teases plenty of other intriguing moments, including scenes of William in the mental asylum (he’s wearing that all white outfit again) and that shot of Dolores screaming while attached to some formidable machinery that we’ve seen since the series first trailer dropped.

With just three episodes left in the season (how?!?), Westworld apparently has a lot of ground to cover. And many questions still to answer.
