Marvel sets 2022 release date for Captain Marvel 2
In the midst of countless movie delays, Marvel has revealed one bit of good news: Captain Marvel 2 will be arriving in theaters in 2022.
With all of the film delays and schedule shifts due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Marvel Studios has been forced to push several of its Phase 4 films back a few months. But in the midst of all the scheduling changes, one bit of good news has come out: Captain Marvel 2 will arrive in theaters in 2022!
While 2022 seems like a long way off, the Captain Marvel sequel originally wasn’t included on Marvel’s roster for Phase 4, at least not the one announced at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con. And although there have been whispers of the second installment being in the works, there hasn’t been much in the way of official news — at least not until now.
With the movie set to debut on July 8, 2022, fans can look forward to Carol Danvers’ next adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Brie Larson is expected to return for the sequel, but little else is known in the way of creatives, cast, and plot details. According to Screen Rant, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck won’t be returning for the sequel — meaning Marvel Studios will need to find a new director to take over.
The first Captain Marvel, which hit theaters last year, followed Carol as she discovered her past and came to terms with her true identity. What our hero will be up to in the sequel remains to be seen, but given that The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,Thor: Love and Thunder, and Black Panther 2 are all set to take place prior to the Captain Marvel sequel, it’s very possible a brand-new threat will be plaguing the MCU by the time Carol makes a reappearance.
We’ll have to wait to learn more about the next installment in Carol’s journey, but it’s comforting to know when we can expect her story to continue. And we’ve got plenty of Marvel projects to look forward to until then….
