The Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming to Disney+ has reportedly found a new writer in John Wick 3 executive producer Joby Harold.

With so many television series and movies being put on hold because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it’s nice to see stories about movies and series making new developments. And although Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series has had a bit of a bumpy ride since being announced, it seems the project is getting back on schedule, with Joby Harold signing on to write the script.

Variety reported the news earlier this week, although neither Harold nor Disney+ has made an official announcement just yet. Harold will take the place of Hossein Amini, who was originally slated to write the script, but left the project after it was put on hold to rework the scripts. It’s still unclear what the problem with the original scripts was, but it is a comfort that Lucasfilm is putting effort into making the writing as high quality as it can be.

Whether Harold will deliver on that quality remains to be seen, but his work as executive producer for John Wick 3Underground, and Spinning Out is promising. Unfortunately, his writing credits are fewer, but he is currently working on Paramount’s new Transformers project, and he wrote the screenplay for Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, which is in post-production.

With any luck, his first foray into writing Star Wars will be met positively, especially since the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is an addition to the franchise fans have been looking forward to immensely. Ewan McGregor is reprising his role from the prequel trilogy of films, and the series will shed some light on what Obi-Wan was up to in the years between those films and A New Hope.

Given the initial delay in production — and now all the delays being caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis — the timeline for the Obi-Wan project remains uncertain. But with a new writer onboard, it seems like it’s still moving forward at Disney+ — and that in itself is a big relief for Star Wars fans.
