Netflix’s Locke & Key has been renewed for a second season, and we can’t wait to discover what antics the Locke family gets up to next.

The first season of Netflix’s Locke & Key — a supernatural series akin to Stranger Things in many ways — debuted on the streaming platform in February, and the service has wasted no time in renewing it for a second season. Variety announced this week that the Locke siblings would be returning for round two, something viewers anticipated after all the twists the first season ended with — but it’s always comforting to hear we won’t be left hanging.

“We are thrilled to be continuing the journey of Locke & Key alongside all of our amazing collaborators,” showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill said in a statement. “We are grateful to Netflix for all their support, especially at this difficult time, and look forward to bringing you the exciting next chapter of our story.”

Based on IDW Publishing’s comics, the first season of Locke & Key saw the Locke family moving into their father’s family home after he was tragically murdered. As it turns out, that home was the very reason their father was gunned down in the first place — and it carries secrets, both good and bad. Among these secrets are the Locke family’s set of magical keys — keys the kids will need to learn to use if they hope to defeat the supernatural presence that once resided in their well.

After unleashing that presence in season one, it almost seemed the Lockes had freed themselves from its grip. The first-season finale saw them sending Dodge through a magical door and closing it behind her — but, it’s later revealed it wasn’t actually Dodge they sent away. With Dodge still roaming their town, Sherri’s fate uncertain, and one of Kinsey’s classmates infected by whatever was behind that door, there are plenty of new mysteries heading into season two — and we can’t wait to see how the Locke siblings handle them.

As for when we can expect the second season, that’s anyone’s guess. With the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic currently holding up production on just about everything, it’s hard to get a clear picture of when Locke & Key could begin filming its upcoming episodes. Whenever it does start, it’ll likely take at least a year to turn it around — so we wouldn’t expect anything before late 2021.
