After winning two challenges on Making the Cut, Ester Perdandt showcased that empowering designs let the confident woman shine.

Did you watch the Making the Cut premiere? Ester Perdandt made a bold statement in this Amazon fashion designer competition. While only the first two episodes have aired, the Berlin-based designer has wowed the judges. With her clear point of view, Ester could become the next big global brand.

After the premiere, Ester graciously spoke with Culturess about her two winning looks, her approach to design and her inspiration. As seen in the first two episodes, Ester has a very clear idea about not only her approach to design, but also how she wants a woman to feel in her looks.

As Ester was introduced in Making the Cut, she described her aesthetic as a combination of Berlin, Moscow and Paris. While those three areas might not seem inherently connected, each locale has a particular influence on her perspective.

Ester mentioned that she grew up in Berlin during the ’70s/’80s. During that time, her mother was a huge influence. Since her mother was a feminist, that belief has carried through to much of her approach to fashion. She feels that some of her looks offer a layer of protection to the wearer. Most importantly, these looks are meant to empower the woman who wears them.

In addition, the punk rock scene of Berlin impacts her as well. That touch of an edge comes through in the strong lines. The combination of both elements is exciting.

While her home has great impact, the artistic influence from Moscow and the chic, elevated finishing from the Parisian culture play an important role, too. The blend of the three worlds makes her designs quite exciting.

As seen in her first four looks, Ester relies on black. After looking at each one, it is clear that black is not just a single color. On Ester’s website, she mentions that she metaphorically sees rainbows in black. She said that she sees shades of light in black.

More importantly she does not feel restricted at all by working only in black. She feels that any woman’s closet cannot have enough black. Ester feels that when a woman wears black, she just glows. The light from her face shines brightly.

Making the Cut offers a unique opportunity for the Ester Perbandt brand. Since this competition focuses on the designer’s approach to design, the philosophy behind the look, and the concept of the brand, it is more than just a pretty look. Viewers are connecting the brand, not just the look.

Even the idea of a runway look and an accessible look each week expands the opportunity for these fashion designers. It shows that fashion designers have to balance business as much as creativity.

Ester appreciates the opportunity that has been presented to her. She commented that, as a designer, she needs to translate her creative ideas into something wearable. In these Making the Cut episodes, Ester does embraces that concept extremely well. The connection is there, yet the idea is never compromised.

Looking at the little black dress that is available for sale in the Making the Cut store, it is a dress that would be perfect in any woman’s wardrobe. From being flattering on a variety of shapes to giving a sense of empowerment to the woman wearing it, this dress should be quite popular.

In an interesting comment, Ester mentioned that her clothes bring out the woman who is wearing it. A woman’s femininity is clear. A woman’s power is forceful. When she wears an Ester Perbandt design, she feels like her best self. Isn’t that what anyone wants to feel when wearing a special outfit?

Both of Ester’s winning looks from episodes one and two of Making the Cut are available in the Amazon store. Her namesake brand, Ester Perbandt, has its own website.

Making the Cut airs new episodes on Amazon Prime each Friday.
