In case any Arrow fans were hanging onto hope that Stephen Amell could make a comeback one day, the actor confirmed that he’s done with the Arrowverse.

The end of The CW’s Arrow brought with it the end of Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen, the character who started the Arrowverse and became one of its most iconic figures. Most fans expected the show’s seven-season run to end with Oliver leaving in one way or another, and that was confirmed with the character’s death during Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Of course, anyone who keeps up with the Arrowverse knows that death doesn’t need to be permanent — all of The CW’s DC superhero series have brought characters back before, and Oliver could easily be resurrected or make an appearance in another series in some way. Unfortunately, despite the ability for Amell to cameo in other Arrowverse shows, the actor won’t be doing so. In fact, he’s confirmed that he’s completely done with the Arrowverse.

As per Entertainment Weekly, the actor said as much during an Instagram live session. One fan asked whether he’d be open to guest starring as Oliver Queen in the future, and he politely stated that, no, he won’t be picking up Oliver’s bow and arrow again.

“No, I’m done,” he responded. “That was good. It was a good eight years, but it was time to be done.”

After eight years, it’s understandable Amell would want a break — and potentially to move on to other projects unrelated to The CW’s world of superheroes and villains. On the bright side, just because Amell won’t be portraying Oliver again doesn’t mean the Green Arrow is completely gone. If The CW’s Green Arrow and the Canaries spin-off series is greenlit (and seriously, what is the network even waiting for?), Oliver’s daughter Mia will take up his mantle.

“I actually haven’t seen that episode because I wasn’t in it,” Amell said of the pilot episode of Green Arrow and the Canaries that aired earlier this year. “I haven’t gotten around to watching it, but I’m sure I will at some point.”

With any luck there will be even more of the story to watch soon. In the meantime, at least we can watch the other Arrowverse series to get our fill of superhero content from The CW.
