As the updates surrounding the coronavirus outbreak continue to come in, it’s been confirmed that Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, have tested positive.

Not long after the World Health Organization (WHO) categorized the novel coronavirus as a pandemic, actor Tom Hanks revealed on social media that he and his wife, Rita Wilson, have tested positive for the disease. The couple is currently in Australia, where Hanks was scheduled to work on an upcoming film.

In an Instagram post, Hanks wrote to his followers, “Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”

Despite testing positive — and being within an age demographic that’s more at risk — it seems the two are staying positive in the current situation. The actor stated they’ll be taking “a one-day-at-a-time approach,” and there’s really not much more any of us can do. Hanks also asked his fans to be well and care for themselves, advice that the public is going to have to heed in the coming months.

Around the same time that Hanks announced his and Wilson’s test results, the NBA also suspended its season due to Jazz player Rudy Gobert testing positive for the virus. At this rate, it seems we could see more celebrities making announcements like this in the coming months, but at least large-scale events, the film and television industry, and sports organizations are taking the measures needed to keep as many people safe as possible.
