After an emotional end to one main character’s story, Grey’s Anatomy picks up where it left off with Amelia’s baby daddy drama.

It might not be as difficult to follow up last week’s emotional Grey’s Anatomy episode as it originally seemed.

Now that Alex’s true whereabouts have been revealed and we know he’s apparently in a happier place (a farm in Kansas, very much alive), the show seems comfortable jumping back into the storylines it had in place before pausing to pay tribute to its beloved original character and longtime cast member.

Only now, when we see Link and Jo interact while on call — as we will in this week’s episode — there will be an extra layer of tension and grief added to it.

These two have been friends for a long time, and it will be good to see them work well together in the operating room. What happens between them outside normal work hours is something the writers have only briefly hinted at thus far. But that, of course, will all depend on how Amelia’s pregnancy (and all the associated drama) pans out.

If you thought the identity of the father of Amelia’s baby was going to remain a mystery — at least for a little while longer — you may have thought wrong. This week’s promo really wants us to believe we’re going to finally get an answer this week.

And while it won’t make up for the bombshells we endured last week, at least we might finally get to see this storyline move forward … even if it means more drama between Amelia and Link. And Owen … and Teddy … and Tom ….

Grey’s has officially moved past the love-triangle trope. It’s a quadrangle now. A pentagon?

What if they all just happily dated each other and avoided all this suffering? But that would be too simple.

As a warning for anyone frustrated by any episode of this show that touches on politics, it seems like Meredith’s storyline will also explore real-world healthcare issues again this week — this time dealing with the cost of insulin.

Patients living with diabetes who can’t afford refills often ration their supply, which can cause life-threatening circumstances. This is the exact thing Meredith’s patient will be dealing with during
“Life on Mars?,” and based on previous episodes this season, Dr. Grey isn’t going to handle it quietly.

We’re here for the medical drama, though. And maybe a little of the love quadrangle (pentagon?), too. As long as Jo and Link don’t end up together. We’re absolutely not here for that.
