Fans of The 100 finally know when they’ll make their final journey to the ground. The final season of The 100 premieres in May, and we really aren’t ready.

When it was announced that the upcoming seventh season of The 100 would be the show’s last, it didn’t come as a huge surprise. After all, there are only so many ways you can rehash the survival storyline before it gets old, and Skaikru has already wreaked havoc on two separate planets — meaning ending the show before things begin to get stale is likely a smart move.

And fans now know when they’ll make their “final journey to the ground,” as The CW announced the premiere date for The 100‘s final season yesterday: The beginning of the end starts on May 20. (And as happy as we are that they aren’t beating this show to death, we’re still not ready to say goodbye.)

This announcement came not long after showrunner Jason Rothenberg took to Twitter, revealing that they were starting production on the series finale. Rothenberg wrote, “Day 1 of shooting #the100 SERIES FINALE is tomorrow. Episode 100 and my 1st as director. I’m so grateful to so many people for so many things, but especially YOU, the fans of the show. As our rockstar crew carries me to the finish line, we know that you carry us all. #ThankYou.”

In case Rothenberg’s message doesn’t have you in your feels enough, though, Lola Flanery, who portrays Madi in the series, also shared her thoughts on filming the finale: “Tomorrow is the first day of filming for the last EVER episode of The 100 and I am not ok  … but it did make me think of my very first day.”

It’s going to be difficult to say goodbye to this science-fiction drama, but there is one bright spot in this: A prequel series for The 100 is in the works, meaning, even if we never see these specific characters, we’ll get to fall back into this world eventually — and maybe better understand how it came to be.
