Jason Isaacs is potentially returning to our screens. The Harry Potter actor has landed the lead male role in an ABC medical drama pilot, Good Sam.

It’s pilot season, and that means a number of shows are casting lead characters for the episodes. These episodes will hopefully lead to the shows being picked up by the networks. For Harry Potter fans, eyes will be on the ABC medical drama Good Sam, which has just landed Jason Isaacs as the lead male.

Deadline broke the news, sharing that he’ll play the male lead opposite Chicago PD‘s and One Tree Hill‘s Sophie Bush. It shouldn’t be all that surprising the pilot has been picked up by ABC, which has had plenty of success with medical dramas in the past. Just look at Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Doctor.

More from Harry Potter

Good Sam will focus on Bush’s Sam, a heart surgeon who takes over the leadership role in the hospital. However, it’s not under positive circumstances. Her boss, Griff (Isaacs), is in a coma.

Wait? Is that it? Oh, no! Griff wakes up and naturally wants to get his role back. He wants to be a surgeon again, but Sam has to decide whether he’s ready for this. She’s the one that has to supervise him.

Want to know another twist to the story? The arrogant Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Griff, is Sam’s father. You just knew there had to be a familial twist. He’s not going to find it easy to work under her new position as Chief of Surgery.

What is interesting for Harry Potter fans in Griff’s character description is that he’s a “wizard with a scalpel.” Is his Gryffindor or Slytherin? Considering his arrogance and push for greatness, we’re going with still a Slytherin.

Right now, the show is still in the pilot stage. ABC won’t make official decisions on new shows until around the May Upfronts, which take place during the beginning of the month. We’ll let you know if there’s any movement either way on the series.
