Harry Potter’s Julie Walters may have filmed her last movie. After surviving bowel cancer, she shares that she’s looking at making a change in her career.
Julie Walters celebrated her 70th birthday earlier this week. And while it should have been a fun thing to celebrate, it turns out Weasley matriarch has battled (and beat) Stage 3 bowel cancer. Now, the Harry Potter actress shares that she’s looking at a career change.
Now that she’s been given the all-clear by her doctors, Walters is looking at the future. For years, she’s enjoyed her acting career, but she knows that things have to change. She can’t keep working “six days a week” and from “five in the morning,” she told the BBC.

We will get a movie appearance before she steps away from the camera, though. When she received her cancer diagnosis and started her chemo treatment, she was filming The Secret Garden. Some of her role had to be cut to fit in her treatment schedule, but she is a part of the movie.
While she’s stepping back, she’s not officially retiring from acting. Walters shares that if there is a project that she’s passionate about, she’s going to go for it. However, it has to be something she really wants to do. And we get that! The person before cancer is not the same person afterward.

It turns out that she was scheduled to be in two movies and two series, but didn’t have the time due to her medical diagnosis. It was something Walters found relaxing, something that was necessary while fighting cancer.
The cancer diagnosis had been 18 months ago. Nobody had known except those who needed to, which did lead to Walters’ lack of appearance at the Mamma Mia 2 premiere being explained as due to a hernia. However, Walters is now ready to open up about the cancer to make sure others are aware of the signs to look for.
We with Julie Walters all the best and hope that she remains cancer-free.
