The In Memoriam section of the Oscars broadcast is always one of the saddest moments of the program, and this year their snub of Luke Perry made it sadder.

It doesn’t matter which awards show you watch, the In Memoriam section is one of the saddest moments of the night usually, with Hollywood and the entertainment industry paying tribute to their fallen members. And at the 2020 Oscars, the In Memoriam section was made sadder by the fact that there was a noticeable lack of Luke Perry included in the tribute.

While many people might consider Perry more of a television actor, he did in fact have roles in a number of movies. And his last movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, was actually up for an Oscar for Best Picture at the 2020 Oscars.

Perhaps it is the fact that he was snubbed on a night that the final movie he worked on was nominated for an award that really makes this entire situation so sad for those of us who loved the actor and his work.

More from Culturess

As a fan of his since his time on Beverly Hills, 90210 (I grew up watching him as the tortured Dylan McKay), I always watched whatever he was in. From his role in the first Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie to his time on Riverdale, Luke Perry has been a mainstay of my viewing activities. So to see him left out of the In Memoriam section seemed like a slap to the face.

And if you are wondering why fans might be upset by his lack of inclusion, some of his other movie roles include The Fifth Element, Redemption Road, and The Enemy. In total, Perry had parts in 36 movies, making his lack of inclusion in the 2020 Oscars In Memoriam section an insult to his legacy.

While he may have been best known for his work on TV, that does not take away from the fact that he was in fact part of the Hollywood movie crowd. And that also means that he should have been honored along with every other person mentioned last night.

Having Luke Perry left out of the tribute to the other people in Hollywood who died over the last year feels disrespectful, especially with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood being his final movie role.
