Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is entering Year 3 on Broadway, and there’s a change to the cast. West End’s Paul Thornley is heading to Broadway.

While Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is still going strong, the cast is seeing a bit of a change. That’s common for multi-year productions, so nothing to worry about, but it does mean a change of actor for Ron Weasley.

When the original Year 3 cast was announced, there wasn’t a mention of the man who would play Harry Potter’s best friend. With James Snyder and Jenny Jules returning as Harry and Hermoine, it made us wonder whether Matt Mueller would return. Instead, he’s stepping aside from the Broadway production, making way for the original Cursed Child Ron to return.

More from Harry Potter

Paul Thornley is heading to the Lyric Theater, reprising the role he took on when the production was in the West End in London. Mueller’s last performance in the role will be on Mar. 15, with Thornley taking over the following performance.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will also welcome Brady Dalton Richards, who makes his Broadway debut as Scorpius Malfoy. What a way to start your Broadway career, right? James Romney and Aaron Bartz are still part of the production, but will change roles to Albus Potter and Draco Malfoy.

What does that mean for others currently playing the roles? Bubba Weiler, Nicholas Podany, and Jonno Roberts will join Mueller in a last performance on Mar. 15, with the new actors taking on their roles on Mar. 18.

Broadway.com also shares that there will be a new group of actors taking other various roles. However, many of the principal roles will be played by the same actors, so for those going to see the production for a second (or many more) time, it’s not going to feel all that different.
