The Crown has its final Queen Elizabeth. Harry Potter’s Imelda Staunton has officially been confirmed in the role, and here’s what we know so far.

After originally questioning the rumors, we now have the official news that Harry Potter‘s own Delores Umbridge is going to be Queen Elizabeth. Okay, really, Imelda Staunton is taking on the role of Queen Elizabeth is the fifth and final season of The Crown.

Yes, you read that right. The fifth and final season. There were originally six seasons planned for the Royal Family drama, but after looking at the storylines for the final season, the creators have decided that only one season is necessary. In a way, it’s a shame. We’ve had two excellent years with Claire Foy, we’ll get two drama-packed years with Olivia Colman, but only one year to see Umbridge become Elizabeth II.

More from Harry Potter

We won’t get Bellatrix Lestrange and Umbridge on screen together, though. Helena Bonham Carter will only play Princess Margaret for the third and fourth season of the drama, meaning there’s a new Princess Margaret on the way for some of Season 5. My assumption is that about halfway through, we’ll see Elizabeth deal with the deaths of her mother and sister.

The decision to run with just five seasons was creator Peter Morgan’s. He shared with The Hollywood Reporter that he was grateful both Sony and Netflix agreed to work with him instead of forcing out stories for two 10-episode seasons.

It’s going to be a while before we see Staunton in action as Elizabeth II. The fourth season is currently in production and will likely air sometime later this year or maybe next year. The fifth season will likely air sometime in 2021 or 2022.

Next. I’m going to finally have to get over my Umbridge fear for the Crown. dark

The Crown Season 5 won’t start filming until after the fourth season has been completed.
