One of the biggest wins of this year’s Golden Globes was the confirmation that we’ll be getting a Knives Out sequel. What can we expect?

There were quite a few big wins at this year’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony, but one of the biggest took place at Lionsgate’s pre-Golden Globes party, where Rian Johnson confirmed that he will be revisiting the world of his whodunnit hit, Knives Out, in a sequel. Johnson told this to The Hollywood Reporter, adding that he’s already working on the next movie and hopes to begin shooting as early as 2020.

This isn’t a complete surprise, as Johnson has been open about how eager he is to return to this world. He told Den of Geek as much several months ago, and he’s teased a sequel on multiple occasions.

If you’re wondering how the writer/director will follow up the closed case of Knives Out, he had an answer for that too. While it doesn’t seem like we’ll be seeing the likes of the Thrombey family again (sorry, no more Chris Evans in cable knit), the sequel film will revolve around Daniel Craig’s character, Detective Benoit Blanc. He’ll be investigating an all-new case this time around, but we can assume the mystery will have similarities — especially when it comes to all the layers.

Apart from which character we’ll be following, not much else is known about the Knives Out sequel just yet. (And given that it’s going to be another mystery, it’s likely Johnson will keep things under wraps for a while.) It would be interesting to see if Ana de Armas’ character reappears at all, though how they’d work her into the film in a believable manner remains a question. She could stay on as Blanc’s assistant — the two did get along swimmingly — but as she’s not confirmed to return, we’re probably getting ahead of ourselves here.

We’ll have to wait to see where Johnson takes Knives Out going forward, but given the success of the first movie, it’s exciting to know we’ll probably see a second somewhat soon. Lionsgate hasn’t officially greenlit the sequel yet, but with the first movie’s box-office haul and the enthusiasm the company had expressed, it seems likely it will. And who knows? Perhaps Craig will adopt this as his new recurring role now that his time as James Bond is coming to an end.

Next. 5 Blockbuster movies will be directed by women in 2020. dark
