Golden Globes 2020: 10 of the most stunning looks from this year’s show
Celebrities attending the 77th annual Golden Globe Awards last night were dressed in their best getups, but who had the best outfits of the evening?
It’s no secret that major awards ceremonies bring out some gorgeous and unique looks on the red carpet, and last night’s Golden Globe Awards was no exception to that rule. Attendees were dressed to the nines, and there were plenty of stunning and fascinating outfits to check out during the red carpet for the event.
Red-carpet looks ranged from classic to bold, and as always, the bolder pieces were the ones that stood out the most. We love reserved, classy looks, but seeing those outfits that make you do a double take is part of the spectacle — and that’s why so many celebrities go above and beyond when it comes to their looks.
Here are 10 of the most stunning looks from last night’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony.
Billy Porter
It just wouldn’t be an awards ceremony without Billy Porter showing up in a gorgeous outfit, so absolutely no one was surprised when he showed up in an outfit that made him look almost angelic. Porter’s dolled up his all-white suit with a feather train — and according to his stylist, the white was meant to symbolize peace and hope. Porter’s look was courtesy of Alex Vinash, although his sparkling footwear is from Jimmy Choo.
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez is a gift, and she knows it. In fact, she showed up to the red carpet in a gown that emphasizes it, complete with a bow overtaking her torso. This gorgeous gown was designed by Maison Valentino, and it goes perfectly with her elegant up-do and simple Harry Winston jewelry. J. Lo balanced bold and classy well with this piece — and she drew all eyes to her, even if she didn’t win Best Actress for Hustlers.
Kaitlyn Dever
Kaitlyn Dever of Booksmart and Unbelievable fame showed up to the Golden Globes ceremony in a bright, flowery pattern that couldn’t be missed. This Valentino Hauted Couture gown could easily be considered a bit much, but Dever wore it well. (It helped that her hair and makeup weren’t flashy, so her outfit could afford to be.) The actress gave off the appearance of someone who didn’t put much work into her look but was swallowed by spring — and honestly, we dig it.
Zoë Kravitz
Speaking of bold patterns, Zoë Kravitz rocked the Golden Globes red carpet with polkadots on polkadots — and somehow, she made the mismatched look work well together. While her bottom half featured large, bold black polkadots on a white background, the top showed off the exact opposite, with smaller white polkadots against a black material. The look came from Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, and its black-and-white combo made it seem bold and classy at the same time.
Ana de Armas
Ana de Armas might not have won big for her performance in Knives Out, but her stunning ballgown was enough reason to attend this year’s Golden Globes. The Ralph & Russo dress was sparkly enough that it drew attention to the actress, but its dark navy color combined with her simplistic hair and makeup made for a classy look that absolutely stole the show.
Helen Mirren
Helen Mirren looked like the queen she portrays in Catherine the Great while walking the red carpet last night. Her sweeping, elegant crimson gown with an off-the-shoulders top that complemented Mirren’s look. Her makeup and diamonds only made the piece look that much more stylish, and Mirren was pure grace as she showed it off.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Phoebe Waller-Bridge took home a Golden Globe last night, and she looked damn good doing it. While most actresses donned ballgowns and dresses, Waller-Bridge opted for a stylish Ralph & Russo couture suit made of black lace. She paired the outfit with black heels, making a statement and making viewers wish they had her stylist.
Waller-Bridge also announced she’ll be auctioning the piece and putting the proceeds toward fire relief for the brushfires currently ravaging Australia. Talk about a true queen.
Beanie Feldstein
Beanie Feldstein looked like an earthly goddess at last night’s ceremony, and we’re not sure whether that’s the result of the pleated bottom of her gown, the off-the-shoulder top, or the gorgeous matching headpiece. Feldstein’s navy gown was from Oscar de la Renta, and her look was styled by Erin Walsh. Like many of the other actresses on this list, Feldstein walked the line between classy and bold, and it allowed her to stand out while looking elegant.
Joey King
The Act‘s Joey King was essentially a walking optical illusion on the red carpet last night, but that didn’t stop her from looking gorgeous in her Iris Van Herpen dress. Not many stars could pull this one off, but the shape and jarring pattern suit her — and they certainly drew the audience’s gaze her way.
Cynthia Erivo
Sparkling dresses were a hit on the red carpet yesterday, and Cynthia Erivo embraced that trend with a stunning Thom Browne dress that was hand-beaded and hand-embroidered. In fact, the gown is so custom-made that it took 800 hours to make, which is insane to think about — though the effort sees worth it when you see how well Erivo wears it.
