With the first season of The Mandalorian over and done with, many fans are questioning when we’ll see the next one. As it turns out, season 2 will be here sooner than anyone expected.

Say what you will about the first season of The Mandalorian, but its final episodes were some of the best things Star Wars has done in a while — and they left fans wanting more of Mando and Baby Yoda. Almost as soon as the first season ended, fans began asking when we’d see the second. And there’s good news on that front: It’s coming much sooner than we expected.

After the first-season finale, showrunner Jon Favreau Tweeted that we’ll be seeing Mando and the rest of his companions sometime during the fall 2020 television season. Given that we’re only a few days away from 2020, that isn’t so bad.

Read Favreau’s Twitter announcement here:

Favreau’s announcement was accompanied by an image of a Gamorrean, a species Star Wars fans have seen in Return of the Jedi. Whether this is relevant or not to the second season of The Mandalorian remains to be seen — though with all of the show’s callbacks to the original trilogy of films, it wouldn’t be so surprising to see some of the same creatures pop up during season 2.

As for what season 2 has in store for us, it’s probably safe to assume that Mando will continue journeying from planet to planet, attempting to return Baby Yoda to its people. There’s also Moff Gideon to contend with — and he’s not likely to take his loss during the first-season finale incredibly well.

With that as an overarching theme, where Mando will go and what he’ll face when he gets there is anyone’s guess. Thankfully, the first season didn’t leave fans on a huge cliffhanger — and we’ll have answers in under a year, which is more than we can say for other series that have just recently ended.
