Barack Obama lists Watchmen and Fleabag among his favorite TV shows of 2019
Former U.S. President Barack Obama Tweeted his favorite media of 2019, and if there’s one thing we can safely say, it’s this: He’s got good taste in television.
With the year finally coming to a close, it seems like everyone is recounting their favorite movies, books, and television series of 2019. That includes former U.S. President Barack Obama, who recently Tweeted his favorite movies and television shows from this year. And if there’s one thing we can safely say after reading it, it’s that the man has good taste in television.
Most of his list was comprised of films, but of the three television shows he listed as his favorites, two of this year’s biggest hits were included: HBO’s Watchmen and Amazon’s Fleabag. Fleabag has dominated this awards season, and Watchmen has been praised as one of HBO’s best new series, so it’s probably no surprise that the former President loved them as much as viewers did.

Also included among his list of “TV shows that I considered as powerful as movies” was Unbelievable, a Netflix miniseries that recounts a real-life sexual assault and shows two female detectives trying to bring the culprit to justice.
Obama’s favorite series all seem to have one important thing in common: They all tackle relevant societal issues that need to be addressed. We suppose when your job was once to deal with the same social and political issues, that might be the sort of media you’d gravitate toward.
Among Obama’s favorite movies were also many films that are up for Golden Globes, including The Irishman, Marriage Story, and Parasite. Little Women and Booksmart are also featured, and honestly, we love that Obama makes an effort to see female-led and female-directed movies as well.
It’s hard to argue with most of the movies and shows on this list, and if you haven’t seen any of these yet, this is a good resource to ensure you’re in on some of 2019’s biggest releases.
