The Mandalorian: 5 questions we need answered in season 2
This week’s episode of The Mandalorian brought the show’s first season to a close, but it left fans with plenty of questions heading into season 2.

The Mandalorian saw the end of its first season this week, with Mando and his companions just barely escaping Moff Gideon’s clutches. Even with Baby Yoda out of harm’s way for now, though, it’s clear that Gideon won’t rest until he has the asset in his hands — and he’s not likely to let go of being defeated by Mando and his companions easily either.
With Mando and Baby Yoda off to find the Jedi and Gideon alive and prepared to hunt them down, there’s plenty that could happen during the series’ second season. It may be a while before fans discover how it all plays out, but there are some major questions that the future episodes need to answer.
Here are five questions we’d like answered during The Mandalorian‘s second season.
Where did Baby Yoda come from?
Viewers first encounter Baby Yoda on Arvala-7, but it seems as though the child was there to be protected. That doesn’t mean it’s where Baby Yoda originally came from, and it’s probably safe to assume the child is from another planet entirely. After all, there were no other members of its species on Arvala-7, meaning its parents are probably elsewhere (assuming they’re even still alive).
Speaking of, we’d also like to know what Baby Yoda’s species is — and what the little Force user’s actual name is! One day, maybe.
What is the Empire planning?
If there’s one thing Star Wars fans know, it’s that the Imperial forces never really go away. Given that this series takes place between the original trilogy of films and the most recent one, we know the Imperial forces will rise again — and given how organized Moff Gideon’s forces are, it looks like they’re already preparing to do so.
What they’re planning, however, remains unknown. We don’t really know how the Final Order rose to power from the recent movies, so perhaps The Mandalorian will give us some insight into how the Empire regained power.
What does Moff Gideon want with Baby Yoda?
While The Mandalorian‘s season finale gave us some insight into the series’ new villain, it didn’t tell us what Moff Gideon wants with Baby Yoda in the first place. All of Mando’s troubles throughout season 1 have been to protect Baby Yoda from the people who put a bounty on his head, but we still have no idea why they want him so badly.
It’s probably safe to assume the Imperial forces want to use the child’s Force powers to take back power. Still, how they plan to do this remains to be seen — and there’s all the weird scientist stuff to consider. Were they planning to run experiments on him?
How will Mando find Baby Yoda’s people?
Toward the end of “Chapter 8,” the Armorer leaves Mando with one order: to care for Baby Yoda until the child either comes of age or is returned to its people. It’s unclear who exactly Mando should be looking for, though. It’s possibe there’s a planet that’s home to Baby Yoda’s species, but the Armorer seems to be suggesting that Mando take him to the Jedi instead. (Are all of Yoda’s species Force users? That’s another possibility.)
Either way, it’s going to be difficult for Mando to find the remaining Jedi or Baby Yoda’s actual people — and we’ll likely have to sit through a lot of trial and error to do it. How does one Google someone in the Star Wars galaxy? This task is really going to put Mando’s bounty-hunting talents to work.
What role will the Guild play in what’s to come?
We’d like to think we haven’t seen the last of Greef Karga and Cara Dune, even if Mando and Baby Yoda left them on Navarro for the time being. It’s unclear whether the Guild or Mando’s bounty-hunting profession will play a large role in the show’s upcoming seasons, but anything is possible. Greef Karga certainly has the resources to help Mando track down Baby Yoda’s ancestors, and we know Cara has a soft spot for her friend.
It’s likely the Guild will help Mando and Baby Yoda in their pursuits, but there’s always the possibility that we’ll see them turning against Mando again. After all, bounty hunters are usually loyal to whoever has the most coin. We’ll have to wait to find out…
