Harry Potter’s Imelda Staunton playing Queen Elizabeth in The Crown?

Imelda Staunton has reportedly been cast as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown Season 5. However, Netflix quickly debunked the rumors.

Rumors spread on Nov. 21 and 22 that Harry Potter‘s Dolores Umbridge would get a royal role. Imelda Staunton was reportedly cast as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown Season 5, taking over from the role Olivia Colman currently plays and was previously played by Claire Foy. What did Netflix have to say about that? Well, definitely not a confirmation!

Deadline shared that a source shared that Staunton was in talks to play the lead role in the British Royal Family drama. The source wasn’t named. The rumors did originate from The Daily Mail, which also couldn’t produce any names of sources, but apparently came from someone connected to the show’s production.

Variety quickly got in touch with Netflix about the rumors. After all, we’ve only just had the third season of the series drop. We’re talking Season 5 already?

According to Netflix, the rumors are just, well, rumors at this point. The streaming service hasn’t even picked up a fifth season of the Royal Family historical series. So far, the fourth season is confirmed and production is currently working on it. While Peter Morgan, the showrunner and creator, will want to work on the fifth season because he has plans, talks with Netflix still need to happen.

It would be fun to see Dolores Umbridge step into a role that we could love. Plus, she’s at the right age to play the queen from when the fifth season will likely take place. After all, The Crown Season 5 will reportedly see the queen in her 60s and beyond. However, talks for casting are too soon. Right now, Morgan will want to talk to Netflix about getting the season greenlit!
