During tonight’s episode of Batwoman, a new villain will be introduced — and Kate’s secret identity could be compromised.

Last week’s episode of Batwoman focused primarily on telling Alice’s story — and her long, sad tale made for one of the series’ best installments yet. But if fans thought things would slow down afterward, it doesn’t seem like that’s the case. Although tonight’s episode appears to shift its gaze to a different villain, the tensions seem high —

The promo trailer for “I’ll Be Judge, I’ll Be Jury” shows that we’ll be meeting the Executioner this week, a Batman villain who uses “methods of capital punishment to kill his victims.” It appears the Executioner quickly becomes a thorn in Gotham’s side, as the preview opens with Jacob shouting about how much he wants to see the villain cuffed.

And while there’s sure to be less of Alice in this episode, we still get a brief glimpse of her and Mouse during the preview. “A perfect match,” she says in a voiceover. “Wouldn’t you agree?” She’s probably talking about the skin she stole for Mouse’s face, but it’s also possible this line alludes to Alice teaming up with the Executioner. You just never know in the Arrowverse…

Kate’s secret identity also appears to be at risk, as this episode just about confirms that Sophie knows what her ex has been up to lately. “I like the new look,” Sophie tells a fully disguised Batwoman, and then we get a clip of Kate telling Luke, “She knows who I am.” It was inevitable that Sophie would discover Kate’s secret, but the real question is this: What will she do about it?

Judging by Jacob’s later comments in the preview, he’s not a fan of Batwoman. If Sophie tells him the truth, it could create some serious complications for Kate. Of course, it also looks like Sophie might owe our masked crusader by the end of the episode — the promo also shows her getting wounded right in front of Kate.

This week appears to amp up the action on Batwoman once more, and it’ll be exciting to see more of the dynamic between Sophie and Kate. It’s also exciting to be cycling through Batman villains again — though we all know Alice is the true center of this story.
