Grey’s Anatomy season 16 episode 7 preview: Amelia tells Owen she’s having a baby with someone else
By Meg Dowell
Grey’s Anatomy fans haven’t always rooted for Amelia. Now that she has finally found love and happiness, we’re not going to let anyone get in the way.
It’s possible Grey’s Anatomy and its writing team are trying to ruin Amelia’s happily ever after with Link, and we will not stand for it.
The one thing we know for sure: This week’s episode is going to force Amelia and Owen into the same room, and she’s going to decide to tell him about her pregnancy. Which is a great and terrible idea all at once, since he isn’t going to be happy about it.
Owen and Amelia have a long romantic history. They fell in love. Their wedding almost didn’t happen. They separated.
And just when it seemed like they were finally, maybe, going to work things out after all, Owen found out he was the father of Teddy’s baby.
Now he’s, as evidenced by this week’s episode promo, angry at Amelia for (almost) the same reason. She’s having a baby with someone else. And that’s not okay with him, apparently.
This is still a medical drama, not a soap opera, though you might not know that if you were a first-time watcher reading those last few paragraphs. The “daddy drama” is really on fire this season, and it doesn’t look like it’s burning out anytime soon.
Of course Owen doesn’t have the right to be angry — it’s not his body, it’s not his baby, and it’s definitely not his business. He’s definitely had a few moments over the years that try to remind you he’s not a bad guy, but it’s becoming harder to believe it when he turns around and starts screaming at Amelia for basically doing the exact same thing to him that he did to her.
Except not really, because he has Teddy and their daughter now, and shouldn’t be even remotely concerned with her love life beyond the casual curiosity of a friend.
Does this mean the two of them won’t ever be able to be friends again? Not if he keeps going on with that attitude.
Granted, this is only a snippet of their exchange and it’s not uncommon for these things to be taken out of context for the purposes of promotion. But Grey’s Anatomy! Drama! Big fights in inappropriate stairwells! What else is new?
As long as we get some quality Amelia and Link (Amelink?) screen time to balance out Owen’s tantrum and the likely resulting dumpster fire of an aftermath, we’ll probably be fine.
Unless you care about whatever is going on with Richard and Catherine and Maggie. Then you’re definitely in for an hour-long stress fest.
