To the surprise of many fans. HBO has passed on the Game of Thrones prequel starring Young Albus Dumbledore and Young Gellert Grindelwald.
When news broke out that a Game of Thrones prequel series was in the works; nobody was surprised. In fact, fans were revealed as many had hoped the fantasy world crated by George R.R. Martin would not come to an end after Game of Thrones Season 8.
Several different prequels had been commissioned, one of them starring several actors from the Wizarding World. Unfortunately, this particular prequel has been shelved before it could even get underway.

A pilot episode had been filmed. A pilot episode that clearly didn’t do it for HBO as, following the screening of the episode, the network decided to completely pass on the project.
Why exactly HBO decided to pass on the prequel is a little unclear. Speculation among fans is HBO decided to pass on the series because of the way Season 8 was received. Official sources however have not given a reason other than they decided to pass on the series. Which suggest it just wasn’t good enough for the network.
Ultimately, it is anyone’s guess right now as to why this has happened; but in the end, the result is the same. Young Albus Dumbledore and Young Gellert Grindelwald are not going to feature in the Game of Thrones prequel series.
