Poldark season 5 episode 5: watch online

Times are a-changing in this week’s Poldark, as, among other things, a shortage of gold means paper is taking its place as currency. Lucky for George Warleggan, really, as everyone knows paper makes the best revenge and revenge, as always, is what he’s looking for.
Demelza, however, is not as shocked as she maybe could be by this news from her banker, but no doubt it will have further implications in the episode, if PBS’ releasing of the scene is anything to go by.
Unrest is already simmering among the working class population of Cornwall – some of whom have conveniently forgotten that Demelza hails from the same community and has historically been more than fair to quite literally everyone (even George “Revenge” Warleggan himself). Could paper money be the thing that pushes their distrust over the edge?
This is what PBS’ official synopsis reveals:
"Ross returns to London in the hope of securing his friends’ passage home and Drake takes a bold risk to help Morwenna. Geoffrey Charles and Cecily find themselves in trouble, while George and his allies hatch a plan to destroy their opposition for good."
Dastardly deeds are surely afoot. The preview video shows a chaotic Parliament on their feet, but whether that’s bad or good, no one can tell (a tradition that continues today).
Drake’s “bold risk” appears to be kidnapping, as he follows up on his following of Morwenna and abducts her son for her. A nice thought (…sort of), but it looks like it backfires – as kidnapping is wont to do – because he ends up being restrained by some henchmen. Which, as much as we love him, is probably fair.
Meanwhile, George’s plan with his allies, one of whom just so happens to be Cecily’s father Ralph, seems very connected to that same trouble that Cecily and Geoffrey Charles encounter.
Geoffrey Charles has decided to go full Poldark it seems and ask Ralph for his daughter’s hand in marriage, despite knowing the man hates him, and has other, very devious and very concrete, plans.
Ah, youth. A heady mix when combined with the Poldark genes. One might even call it a recipe for disaster. What can you do?
There are many decisions taken in this week’s Poldark. At least two of them are wrong. Bless the women of this show, because frankly, the men are hopeless.
