The Good place season 4 episode 4 review: Demons vs demons
The Good Place puts everything on the line as someone from the Bad Place arrives. But is it to help our team or to hinder their progress?
The Good Place is heading for disaster. Flirting with Disaster? Well, probably. What do we think is headed their way to upset the balance of things? Let’s dive right in!
Not-so-short summary & analysis
We’re starting with Pictionary and it’s just a fun way to get into the episode. And, you know, show the rest of our test subjects, because this turns very much into a bottle episode.
An unknown train arrives and it’s Glenn from the Bad Place. He has something to say. It’s not Michael—it’s Vicki in a Michael suit. But Eleanor doesn’t trust him. Still, they need to grill him.
Glenn doesn’t believe anymore that everyone in the Bad Place is evil and bad. Also he helped make the Michael suit and also Shawn is always mean to him. He wants them to call the Judge and rat everyone out, but everything would get reset again—and they’ve come so far!
There’s plenty of back and forth after they separate Michael and Glenn and both of them really do sell their cases and it’s hard to tell which one is telling the truth—or if they’re both telling the truth.
Janet creates a lie detector that accidentally explodes Glenn, naturally, because The Good Place can’t just have a simple solution for anything.
We also finally get a good bonding moment between Eleanor and Chidi and a giant plate of nachos as she goes out for a walk to clear her head. And it leads her to decide that they need to call the Judge.
And then we get Jason saving the day before Michael sacrifices himself! It’s actually a Bad Janet! He figured it out because Janet didn’t say “not a girl.”
Real Janet is in the Bad Place, possibly still a marble? Jason offers to go punch Shawn in the mouth and get Janet back. Michael and Jason are off to the Bad Place to rescue Janet while Eleanor and Tahani have to keep everything else afloat.
Nothing can possibly go wrong!
Favorite moments and lines
”You guys want me to kill it? I’ve shot a lot of race horses.” Brent works so well in small doses.
”What goes best with pig urine?” Eleanor asks.
”Coconut rum,” Jason offers up quickly.
Also we have a great cameo from Derek, who claims to have evolved past being jealous of Jason. And plenty of adult toys for him and Mindy St. Clair.
I am also with Jason—I would very much like to see a 6000-foot-tall fire squid that is Michael’s actual form.
So what misadventures will happen in the next episode of The Good Place? Michael and Jason aren’t going to blend in as well as before. And what will Eleanor and Tahani do to keep the Neighborhood running? How will Brent survive without Janet to serve him Perrier?
