With so many Grey’s Anatomy couples struggling this season — and we’re only three episodes in — it’s usually good to see new romance heating up. But not this romance.

It’s official: Miranda Bailey has taken her chief privileges way too far. Is anyone counting how many people she has fired since Meredith and company? Someone start keeping track. DeLuca might be next.

There’s never been a shortage of drama on Grey’s Anatomy, but so far, season 16 is shaping up to be one of the most ridiculous (in a good way or bad, I’m not quite sure yet). Richard took the wrong patient off life support! Levi… has now reached peak Levi Schmitt, I guess.

Also, a moment of silence for all the editors who had to sit through Meredith’s terrible article pitches.

OK. Moving on.

Onto Jackson and all his terrible choices in 3… 2… 1.

Jackson Avery could have rebounded with literally any woman but Victoria Hughes, and we probably would have just rolled our eyes and let him continue on being Jackson (though begrudgingly, of course).

But this is VIC we’re talking about. Vic, who has a very unfortunate history with Jackson’s now ex-girlfriend. It’s not exactly a love triangle, but it’s just as frustrating as one.

Last time Maggie and Jackson talked — really talked — it was clear he had long since moved on and she definitely hadn’t.

There’s their breakup scene… and then there’s their post-breakup scene. The one where Maggie sees Jackson with Vic and questions — right along with the rest of us — how he could have possibly moved on so fast.

He has abandonment issues. We get it. And Vic just lost the love of her life. We get that, too. But come on.

Even though Jackson and Vic were a very small part of this episode — there was a lot to cover, especially adding in the whole Cast From the Past subplot — she and Maggie did get to have a scene alone together that didn’t involve Maggie giving her the worst news of her life (still not over it).

And it was… well, it was awkward. They tried not to make it awkward, but that just made it more awkward.

Kudos to Vic for being the one to greet Maggie in passing instead of just pretending she doesn’t see her, by the way. Maggie would have just kept on walking, because she’s Maggie and doesn’t know how to properly deal with conflict in social situations.

Was their exchange the beginning of a much less awkward casual friendship? That might depend on where things go with Jackson in the episodes to come.

It would be completely different if Vic were just Maggie’s former patient’s fiancé. But the fact that she’s already sort of dating her ex, combined with the fact that Maggie apparently has a really hard time letting go, really intensified the moment.

I could see this evolving into an interesting friendship, though either Maggie would have to get over her feelings for Jackson or Jackson and Vic would have to break up (as they should).

Maggie has Meredith and Amelia, but they’re pretty much her family. Her “sisters.” She needs a down-to-earth gal pal. Someone who understands the pressures that come along with saving lives in high-stress situations, but who also knows how to unwind and have fun.

Vic would be perfect for that role. It’s not her fault she’s lonely and that Jackson also happens to be lonely and, you know, hormones exist.

Next week’s drama fest looks like it’s finally going to put Bailey in her place. So regardless of the chaos that will most definitely continue as far as romances are concerned, at least she might finally get called out on her own questionable choices.

More Maggie and Vic, please! And more Levi and Nico. You can never have too much Levi and Nico.
