The new Watchmen trailer brings to life the world of the vigilante

While the TV show Watchmen is set in the same universe as the film, the new trailer shows how it differs from the world we came to know in the graphic novel.

Watchmen is coming to HBO and while the series is bringing to life the world of the graphic novel, there are some differences between the original work,  the 2009 film and the show that executive producer Damon Lindelof is bringing to us.

In a new trailer for the series, we can see the fear that inhabits those heroes who exist in Tulsa, Oklahoma, 34 years after the events of the graphic novel end. A white supremacist group that calls themselves the “Seventh Calvary” wear Rorshach masks, attacking homes of police officers and detective Angela Abar (Regina King) is working with Chief of Police Judd Crawford (Don Johnson) to stop the group.

What’s interesting about the new trailer is that while we are seeing more of the costumes of these heroes, we’re also learning about this world that seemingly fears the heroes that saved it in the film. The world is dark and there are radical groups coming for the police and it seems, from this trailer, that their only hope is Angela Abar and her abilities.

In an exciting turn of events, one of the crossover characters from the novel to the television show is Adrian Veidt, who was played by Matthew Goode in the film. In the show, he’s brought to life by Jeremy Irons and it is certainly going to be interesting to see how Adrian Veidt has changed in the 34 years since we last saw him in the big screen version of Watchmen.

What has the world come to? Who are we meant to support in this journey as we watch a supremacist group rise against the police? It’s going to be an interesting dynamic to explore on the new show this fall!

A gritty world where superheroes are outlaws and there seems to be trouble on the horizon? Delightful. We can’t wait to see what Watchmen  has in store for us.
