After the massive success of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, it’s no surprise that the Russo Brothers are looking to direct more MCU films. But which do they have their eyes on?

The Russo Brothers have become a well-known entity in the entertainment sphere after the success of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It feels like they make headlines almost daily speaking about their plans and confirming theories about these films, and so, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the two are eager to spearhead more projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed as much in an interview with SyFy Wire at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Although they’d always been involved in independent political projects, they revealed that they’d still be interested in working on more Marvel movies going forward.

“We love that level of filmmaking that Marvel afforded us,” Anthony said. “We love telling stories on that level, but we’re also fed by smaller stories and more specific stories. So for us moving forward, it’s moving back and forth between the two.”

In particular, the pair revealed that they’d be compelled to return to the MCU to revitalize one of the stories that previously belonged to Fox. The recent merger does open up a number of opportunities, as well as the ability to start fresh with some of the film series that didn’t do as well prior to being under Disney’s wing.

“I grew on up [John] Byrne’s X-Men run,” Joe explained. “Ben Grimm was a favorite character growing up, the Thing. And Fantastic Four is now in the Marvel fold. There’s a lot. Silver Surfer is an amazing character. Going really big in cosmic would be a lot of fun. So there’s a lot of things that could attract us.”

And if anyone could bring Fantastic Four or X-Men back to life, it’s the Russo Brothers. They managed to make two of the biggest MCU films of all time — though, of course, those storylines had already been laid out for them. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle starting something from scratch, opening up a whole new story and cast of characters.

Nothing’s set in stone yet, but the Russo Brothers certainly managed to impress fans with their entry into the MCU. It seems likely they’ll return eventually, and we’re excited to see what they come up with when they do.
