Hayley Atwell joins the cast of Mission Impossible 7
Hayley Atwell, best known for her roles in Agent Carter, Captain America, and Black Mirror, has officially been cast in Mission Impossible 7 and will be starring alongside Tom Cruise in the franchise’s next addition.
Move over, Agent Hunt. Agent Carter is here. Aside from the fact that director Christopher McQuarrie confirmed that Mission Impossible 7 would be happening, we didn’t have much information about the next installment of the hit franchise — until now. Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Hayley Atwell has been added to the cast of Mission Impossible 7, which is the first of two movies that have been confirmed by McQuarrie.
Even though he had indicated that he didn’t plan on returning to the franchise, Christopher McQuarrie surprised (and delighted) us when he revealed that he closed a deal to direct Mission Impossible 7 and 8. The movies will be filmed back to back and released in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
Aside from the newly added Atwell, the cast is already set to include returnees Tom Cruise (Ethan Hunt), Rebecca Ferguson (Ilsa Faust), and Simon Pegg (Benji Dunn). It’s currently unknown as to whether or not other franchise stars like Jeremey Renner (William Brandt), Vanessa Kirby (White Widow), or Ving Rhames (Luther Stickell) will join the cast as well.
Hayley Atwell should feel right at home in the Mission Impossible franchise. After all, she shot to fame after portraying Captain America’s paramour/secret agent extraordinaire Peggy Carter. Atwell’s performance in Captain America: The First Avenger enraptured fans so much that she earned her own solo TV series, Agent Carter, which ran for two seasons on ABC.
Plot details for Mission Impossible 7 are currently unknown, but after pulling stunts like a HALO jump, climbing the side of the world’s tallest building, and holding his breath underwater for 6.5 minutes, we don’t think it’s too early to rule anything out.
Mission Impossible: Fallout, the franchise’s most recent installment, was the most critically acclaimed film yet, so our hopes are high that Mission Impossible 7 will continue the upward trend.
