Catholic school removes Harry Potter books due to demon conjuring risk
By Callum Gunn
A private Catholic school in Nashville has removed Harry Potter books due to advice from exorcists. There’s a risk to conjuring demons because of spells.
Yes, you have just read that right! Students at a private Catholic school in Nashville will no longer be able to read Harry Potter books on the school grounds. All books have been removed and you can thank the spells in the books.
Exorcists have adviced the Catholic schools to remove the books. The “actual spells” could conjure evil spirits, according to a report from The Guardian.

St. Edward Catholic School’s pastor, Rev Dan Reehil, wrote to parents to say that he’d consulted exorcists bout the books. While J.K. Rowling shows that magic can be both good or evil, he and exorcists believe that this is a “clever deception.” The curses and spells are real curses and spells. They run the risk of evil spirits being conjured, putting everyone at risk.
According to the Catholic diocese superintendent, Rebecca Hammel, the questions about the spells came up when a parent inquired about them. After that, the pastor decided to act in the best interest of the students. Each pastor can make a decision for his own school, which means one school can ban books while others will choose to let them remain available to students.

The diocese won’t get into the censorship issues. The only time it will step in is to ensure all books are age-appropriate for students.
This is certainly not the first time the Harry Potter books have been censored by Christian schools. Since the first release, there were questions about the suitability. In 1999, the books were the most challenged with the American Library Association and has routinely topped the list between 2000 and 2009.
