Tom and Emma have reinvigorated Dramione shippers all over, but in canon, Draco and Hermione make absolutely no sense together in Harry Potter.

I know, I know. We ship what we ship and we love what we love. I’m in no way, shape or form trying to revive the days of the Harry Potter shipping wars, especially because, at this point, what does it matter?

We know how the story ended, and we still like what we like.

More from Harry Potter

But I do have to say, from the bottom of my heart that, in canon, Draco and Hermione made absolutely no sense, and that is just the tea.

I assume the desire to see them together comes from the same place the love for Romeo and Juliet comes – star crossed lovers, and all that. But let’s remember Romeo and Juliet died, and they were actually “in love.”

No, I’m not going on a, it was infatuation, not love rant. Not today.

But back to Draco and Hermione, the question is …other than the fact that they were firmly on opposite sides of a war, what other reason could we have to want them together? They never had one positive interaction in the Harry Potter books, much less expressed any positive emotion towards each other. So why?

Sure, there are probably a thousand beautiful fanfics where people who are described like Draco and Hermione but behave differently, find their way to each other. And that’s not just to be respected, it’s to be celebrated. Fanfic is a wonderful, magical world.

But in the canon of the books, in the story J.K Rowling actually published, it’s important to realize that Hermione and Draco would not just be horrible together, they would never choose to be together.

Some couples are better left to fanfic.
